Moe Joe

(Bounce Fitness)

Marissa “MoeJoe,” Joseph is a New Iberia, Louisiana native who labels herself and dance style as Afro-Creole, specializing in the areas of folk street dance.  She is a performer, teacher, dance fitness leader and culture entrepreneur who advocates the southern and Creole experience of music/dance through her dance fitness exercise, Bounce Fitness w/Moe Joe. She has a BA in Communications Studies from Louisiana State University.

As a youth, Marissa was involved in dance and graduated from her dance school, Jill Listi in Lafayette, La., but the City of New Orleans cultivated her art and vision for deeper cultural purpose. She’s been a frequent performer at Jazz Fest, Bayou Boogaloo, and French Quarter Festival. She’s a funk dancer and crowd mover for New Orleans homegrown funky and rare groove deejay, DJ Soul Sister and worked alongside film director Dan Pritzker on the Bolden film (2015).  In 2015, she took a leap and joined the African circus, Cirque Zuma Zuma as a dancer/singer/percussionist. Joseph has choreographed and performed with jazz and funk legend Dr. John, leads movement healing dance experiences with Summit LLC. in Eden UT, the Bahamas and Los Angeles. She trains with her mentor, Ivory Coast Master/Percussionist, Seguenon Koné for African aboriginal performance. She is owner of the first boutique dance gallery in Louisiana, The Moe Joe Gallery, a multicultural arts wellness space inspired by Creole and Southern dance connections, located in the 8th ward/St. Roch community of New Orleans.

Her goal is to use dancing as a method of culture education, while empowering people to heal through movement, explore self-identity and reclaim self-power.
