Cynthia Girtley; Gospel Diva

Girtley was born and raised in New Orleans Louisiana.  She comes from a family with strong spiritual beliefs and a rich musical background.  At the age of four Girtley began singing in the church’s youth choir and at ten she began playing the piano.  During high school and college, Girtley continued singing, playing the piano and directing choirs for churches throughout the city of New Orleans.

Girtley later moved to the Washington, DC. where she served as Minister of Music for various churches and denominations in the Washington DC and Maryland Metro Area.

During her career, Girtley has performed in Europe and toured Brazil singing traditional gospel, jazz and blues.  Girtley has appeared at major festivals and concert venues, such as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the National Cathedral in Washington DC, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the Global African Festival in Dallas, Texas, the Cincy Blues Festival in Cincinnati Ohio, and the Bourbon Street Festival in Sao Paulo Brazil.  Girtley also performed for the Super Bowl Celebration in 2013.

While contemporary, hip hop, gospel rap, and urban gospel seem to be more prevalent today, Girtley continues to carry the torch of of the old pioneers by continuing to sing and perform traditional gospel music.
