Djakpa Ewe Ensemble
Andrew Wiseman is a Master Percussionist from Ghana, West Africa. He is from the Ewe ethnic group; born into a family of master storytellers and drummers and has played numerous roles in movies and stage productions both in the U.S. and abroad, and he has made two musical albums. He has also played percussion with groups such as the Moondogs, Hardrick Rivers, and Charlies Little Blues before returning to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
Andrew has worked with Northwestern State University of Louisiana as an instructor and represented the African continent in various cultural shows as well as solo performances for the Federal Park Services. He is a traditional priest and consultant on West African culture and music.
Currently, he is a linguist and a percussionist for Guardians of the Flame, a Mardi Gras Indian group, and teaches African drumming and choreography nationally and internationally. He was a featured drummer on the HBO series Treme and Zoo, on CBS. He is also the 212th recipient of the prestigious Mardi Gras Indian Hall of Fame Drumbeat award.
